Lilly Grant/NU
In the Fall of 2022, NW Center for Faith & Families was created through a generous grant project funded by the Lilly Foundation. The primary objective for the Family Faith Formation Initiative grant was to equip congregational leaders and parents/caregivers as they seek to serve the children and young people under their care.
It is NW Center for Faith & Families achieve this goal through three main activities:
Northwest University, founded in 1934, is a private Christian university affiliated with the Assemblies of God. Its mission focuses on “spiritual vitality, academic excellence, and empowered engagement with human need.” We have a significant commitment to Christian spirituality that connects well with the life of both the local church, its leaders, and the families represented therein. To this we add the academic and scholarly commitments of an institution of higher learning. In sum, it is these very commitments that will motivate Northwest’s Center for Calling and Theological Formation and the work of its proposed Family Faith Formation Initiative to provide the resourcing, development, and innovation that the Lilly Endowment is looking to see from this grant program.
Northwest University’s close affiliation with the Assemblies of God provides a direct connection to the networks of congregations and church leaders represented by one of the largest Pentecostal-Charismatic groups in the United States. Our connection to the broader tradition also allows us to connect with groups like the Foursquare Church and the Church of God in Christ, as well as sectors of the non-denominational church world. Closer to home, we have a good working relationship with both the Northwest and Oregon Ministry Networks (Assemblies of God) that will serve the NW Center for Faith & Families well.
We will be launching a monthly podcast where we hope to interview a new person every month on the topics of parenting, faith, hardships, culture, community, and more.
